Artist's Comments

On a very wet day, the Wales Millenium Centre in Cardiff.
The English reads 'In these stones horizons sing'
The Welsh reads 'Creu gwir fel gwydr o ffwrnais awen'. I can't remember what creu means, but the rest I think reads 'clear like glass from a furnace' (ah - the person who wrote it translates it as - 'Creating truth like glass from inspiration's furnace' - [link] ) Wiki: [link]
I think the building is beautiful, and the writing on it is beautiful (i'm a sucker for writing on objects :-) ), and the colours in the slate are beautiful. People think slate is dull and grey, but you pick up a piece in your back garden and see the most beautiful greens and purples and blues - and someone has abstracted these colours and fastened them in ranks of slate to the side of the building, to force us to see the beauty of slate. So different to the usual Welsh habit of just throwing slate at things because it's traditional.
